Professional Experience

Water desalination process development (thermal/membrane) for sustainable water solution is the focus area. He is a specialist in the process design and techno-economic optimization of water desalination using a well-developed visual simulation program (VSP).  Beside his academic background as an Associate Professor at Engineering Science Department (Thermodynamics, Heat transfer, and Thermo fluids), Faculty of Engineering, Suez University (Egypt), he has an industrial experience in the field of desalination plant process design.  He led several R&D projects during his work in   the Doosan Heavy Industries, Desalination R & D Center (UAE) to improve the thermal/membrane desalination technology (MSF, MED, RO, NF and FO) for market competence. He participated in EC funded projects in the field of water desalination based renewable energy systems.    He published several publications (24 papers) Peer-reviewed international Desalination journals as well as presented his research work in local and international conferences (16 papers). He published a book entitled by: Techno economic Analysis of seawater Desalination Plants, 2012. He has three disclosures in the desalination process development. He is a member of the conference technical advisory board of Water world Middle East. 

Research Interest

  • Desalination process simulation using visual simulation program (VSP). 
  • High performance, high TBT MSF using NF membrane pretreatment. 
  • Development of high TBT   Once through MSF-OT.     
  • Steam, electricity and unit water cost allocation for cogeneration power and desalination plant.
  • Scale model simulation in the MED/MSF evaporator tube bundle.
  • Simulation of FO   as a pretreatment method to thermal desalination (MSF, MED and MD).
