There is an urgent need to have access to safe, high quality, adequate and sustainable water supply as water use is rapidly increasing, putting more pressure on the already depleted water resources and increasing the adverse environmental effects of burning fossil fuels used in water desalination and power production. 

The overall objective of the Water Security Grand Challenge is to achieve water security in Qatar by having access to high quality, adequate, affordable and sustainable water that meets and supports it’s fast expanding and evolving social and development programs. The research drivers are increasing energy efficiency, reducing cost, minimizing health risks and environmental impacts.
